Friction Fire Bow drill Method
A short Youtube video By 'A-Z Bushcraft', showing the best method for friction fire lighting in the UK. This method is preferable to the plough or hand drill method, as you can easily create more friction, which helps you create an ember and get your fire going easily in our damp climate.
Remember that preparation is the key.
1. Make sure you have everything to hand, so your not looking for your tinder bundle once you have an ember.
2. Keep everything dry (erect a tarp cover if necessary or find a sheltered spot)
3. Friction fire requires quite a bit of effort and determination, so keep trying until you get success.
4. Blowing to close to the ember with moist breath is not a good idea, and dripping sweat has also been known to land unwantedly on an already successful ember, something to be mindful of.
5. Share the work-load if necessary with a collegue.
6. After you sucessfully make friction fire things will never be the same again.
I hope you enjoy the video, and take something useful away with you.
